Nizami Ganjavi and the “Khamsa” — for kids

Hello, little friends and dear parents! Today we’ll talk about a great poet and sage whose name has been loved worldwide for over 900 years — Nizami Ganjavi.

Nizami’s childhood and creativity

In the 12th century, a boy named Ilyas lived in the city of Ganja. Later, everyone called him Nizami. Since childhood, he loved listening to stories, reading books, and asking questions.

As he grew up, his imagination and thoughts turned into magnificent poems. He wrote five great works and collected them in a book called “Khamsa” (“Quintet”).

What is “Khamsa”?

It’s like five treasure chests. But instead of gold, they hold wisdom and life lessons:

  • “Treasury of Mysteries” — about justice and honesty,
  • “Khosrow and Shirin” — about courage, love and kindness,
  • “Layla and Majnun” — about pure and loyal love,
  • “Seven Beauties” — about the friendship and wisdom of different peoples,
  • “Iskandarnama” — about being a just and wise ruler.

Why is Nizami important for kids?

  • Good always triumphs over evil.
  • Knowledge is more valuable than wealth.
  • Beauty without kindness and wisdom is empty.
  • Love and friendship are the greatest treasures.

I, Kirpi, love telling children Nizami’s stories because they teach us to be kind and fair.

Tips for parents

  • Read his stories in simple language.
  • Discuss the heroes’ actions with your kids.
  • Act out small plays — who will be Good, who Evil?
  • Draw the heroes together with your children.

This way, kids won’t just listen — they will live these stories in their hearts.

Little task

Ask your child to invent a short story about Good and Evil. Let them decide how Good will win. This builds imagination and strengthens positive values.
